Experience

Jack is CLP’s founder and currently serves as our managing partner.  Before founding Cleantech Law Partners, Jack held legal, policy and business positions in the U.S. and abroad, including:  environmental lawyer for leading law firms, analyst for a cleantech venture capital fund, advisor for the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and as a legal fellow for the United Nations Environment Program.

For several years, Jack taught a graduate-level course in comparative environmental law and renewable energy policy.  In 2016, Mr. Jacobs co-authored a leading treatise on Renewable Energy Law & Policy, which is published by LexisNexis and revised annually.   The textbook is a trusted resource for lawyers, students and laypeople around the world.

Additionally, Mr. Jacobs has written numerous other articles on renewable energy and clean technology law. He is a frequent speaker on renewable energy legal issues throughout the United States and internationally.

He holds an LL.M. degree in environmental law & natural resources policy from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College, a J.D. degree with a concentration in environmental law from Vermont Law School, and a B.A. degree in environmental analysis & planning from Frostburg State University.  He is an active member of the Massachusetts Bar.
